Can dogs eat cherries?

CAUTION

The flesh is fine — the pits are the problem.

Why?

Cherry flesh is safe, but pits, stems, and leaves contain cyanide compounds. Pits are also a choking and intestinal-blockage hazard.

⚠️ Watch out for

Dilated pupils, difficulty breathing if many pits were chewed and swallowed.

✅ Safe way

Serve pitted cherries only, in small amounts. Call your vet if pits were eaten.
